The Neighborhood Experience

Annually ranking among the top most sought-after communities in the Washington metropolitan area, Cascades offers homes with prices aligned to a wide variety of budgets for its over 12,000 residents.  While the median home cost is $595,000, some homes sell for just over $250,000 and other recent sales have exceeded $1,000,000.  By far the largest portion of Cascades is the Potomac Lakes neighborhood, which is made up of beautiful single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and apartments.  Walk the tree-lined streets of Potomac Lakes and take in the traditional homes with wrap-around porches and beautiful canopied back yards, stately colonials overlooking vast garden lawns, or contemporary homes with clean distinct lines.  To the northeast of Potomac Lakes is Lowes Island at Cascades, which comprises large single-family homes and townhomes, and features the world-renown Trump National Golf Club Washington, DC., which played host to the 2017 Senior PGA Championship.  Tucked into the furthest northeast corner of Cascades, the Estates offers luxury single-family homes with more secluded living that features larger wooded lots, golf-cart access to Trump National Golf Club, and close proximity to challenging hikes along the nature trails of the beautiful Seneca Regional Park.

The Amenities of Cascades

Swimming, Boating, Golfing, and more at Algonkian Regional Park

Along the north side of Cascades, at the end of Cascades Parkway, is the Algonkian Regional Park, which offers 838 acres of outdoor adventure, including access to the Potomac River, as well as numerous other activities.  Although not explicitly part of Cascades, no other community has easier access!  Spend a day on the river with your fishing boat, kayak, canoe, or Jet-ski!  Then, once back into your vehicle, perhaps take advantage of one of the multiple reservable picnic areas.  Riverfront cottage rentals, ranging from two- to five-bedrooms and accommodating up to ten guests, also offer a relaxing getaway that is very close to your Cascades home!  These picturesque facilities offer fully furnished rooms, private kitchens, private parking, scenic decks, and beautiful views of the Potomac River below.  If golf is your game, you can enjoy either a fun round of mini golf, or a more challenging round of regulation golf on the 18-hole Algonkian Regional golf course that winds through the Park’s woodlands.  Finally, you can bring the kids to enjoy an afternoon at the Volcano Island Waterpark, one of Northern Virginia’s favorite destinations for aquatic fun.  The Park’s large main pool offers splashing and swimming space for everyone – and includes a unique tree stump slide – a quick ride that sends you into four feet of cool water!  It also features two waterslides totaling 400 feet of descending thrills!

The Algonkian Regional Golf Course has long remained one of the region’s most popular golf course.   Measuring almost 7,000 yards from the tips, it is both challenging for the serious golfer and forgiving for the occasional weekend player.  Originally designed by Ed Ault in 1962, it has been a popular destination for decades.  Rolling Bermuda grass fairways provide an excellent playing surface, while plenty of water hazards, sand traps, and woods-lined roughs present plenty of challenges!

The clubhouse at Algonkian Regional Golf Course also offers The Woodlands, an elegant event space overlooking the picturesque forests of the park. The primary room can host up to 200 guests, and it features high ceilings, a striking stone fireplace, and a dance floor framed by windows that overlook the wooded golf course.  This 5-star venue is a natural setting for the perfect wedding and offers a service staff with bar drinks, food, and catering.

There is also plenty of hiking both through and adjacent to Algonkian Park.  Traversing the Park along the Potomac is the renown Potomac Heritage Trail, which hikers at all levels can enjoy.  Within Algonkian Park, enjoy an outing on the “Dr. Ira Gabrielson” trail.  Continuing to the east and immediately adjacent, after passing through the easement that traverses Trump National Golf Club, is the Seneca Regional Park.  Immediately adjacent to the west of Algonkian Park, is the Countryside Nature Preserve.  All in all, a serious hiker can enjoy many miles of challenging terrain, all within a short walk (or, rather, hike) from your Cascades home!  For the bird watchers, join the Northern Virginia Bird Club for “bird walks” along the Park trails to catch a glimpse of the Virginia State Bird – the Northern Cardinal, a Blue Heron, any of several breeds of owl, and many more.

Adjacent to Algonkian Park and just on the south side of the golf course is the Potomack Lakes Sportsplex, a 47-acre athletic complex that features four night-lit softball fields and the six Paul Hencken soccer fields.  Between the months of March and November annually, the complex plays host to numerous Loudoun County adult softball and soccer leagues, as well as youth soccer.  Additionally, it hosts dozens of local, state, regional, and national tournaments annually, and has won several national awards, including 2007 ISA Softball Complex of the Year.  In addition to the playing fields, the property features a modern kiosk building for umpires and team staff, as well as concession stands and an outdoor seating area with a public address system.
